Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 2600 Bellfort Avenue

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 2600 Bellfort Avenue about 6:40 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 9).

The suspect, Delbert Humprey Perkins, 49, is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in the 185th State District Court.  A booking photo of Perkins, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.

The identities of the two deceased male victims, 50 and 30 years of age, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer N. Luu reported:

Perkins was driving a brown Ford Expedition at a high rate of speed in the westbound lanes of the above address when and struck a large industrial forklift as it exited a private drive.

Paramedics pronounced two passengers in the Ford deceased at the scene.  A third passenger, a female, 37, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.  The male operator, 33, of the forklift was not injured.

Perkins was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  He was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently charged in the crash.
