Restaurant Fire in the South Belt / Ellington Area

WHAT: Restaurant fire.

WHEN: February 28, 2024, at 2:27 p.m.

WHERE: 11001 Fuqua St. 77089.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: $52,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Unintentional (abandoned or discarded materials).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within three minutes to find light smoke coming from a restaurant. They opened the wall and extinguished the fire while checking for extension. Everyone had safely exited the building.  It was determined that a cigarette was most likely blown under the exterior wood siding by strong winds, igniting the structure. 35 personnel responded to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 70, 29, 36, 61, 94 and 93.
