Residential Fire in The Second Ward Area

WHAT: four-plex residential fire.

WHEN: November 13, 2022 at 4:04 a.m.

WHERE: 100 block of Everton St. 77003.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.

DAMAGE: $446,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators determined that the cause was accidental due to an unspecified electrical malfunction.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within two minutes to find fire coming from a 2-story four-plex residential structure. They made an attack on the fire and controlled the utilities. The building was ventilated, and a primary search was completed. Crews rotated until they were able to control the fire, however a broken gas meter caused the fire to continue to flare up and the gas company arrived to shut the gas off from underground. After a defensive strategy was made, the fire was fully extinguished. 15 residents were displaced, and the American Red Cross was notified to assist. HFD Arson investigators were requested and determined the cause was accidental due to an unspecified electrical malfunction. Firefighters from Stations 20, 23, 19, 8, 9, 17, 18,25, 40, 30, Rescue 42 and Rehab 17 responded to this incident.
