Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 6300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 5:35 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 24).
The deceased female is identified as Maria Ambriz Reyes, 67.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer T. Phillips reported:
Ms. Ambriz Reyes was driving a gray Mitsubishi Endeavor southbound at the above address when she lost control of her vehicle and spun on the freeway. A gold Chrysler 300 struck the Mitsubishi while it was rotating and a blue Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck then also struck the Mitsubishi.
Houston Fire Department transported Ambriz Reyes to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her deceased.
Paramedics also transported the driver of the Chrysler, Krystal Ann Sanchez, to an area hospital, where it was determined she was impaired. She remains hospitalized.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and Sanchez was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated Harris County Criminal Court #5.
The driver of the Ram was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
