Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 11597 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) service road about 12:20 a.m. today (Jan. 17).
The identity of the deceased female, believed to be in her 30s or 40s, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer R. Singleton reported: Two on-duty HPD officers in a marked patrol vehicle were en route to a call for service and traveling northbound on the service road at the above address when the female, a pedestrian, stepped into the roadway and was struck by the police vehicle. Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the female deceased. The officers, assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division, were not injured. As is customary when an individual is seriously injured or deceased in the presence of officers, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Internal Affairs Division. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is also conducting an investigation and stated the incident will be referred to a grand jury. JFC/VHS 1-17-23 Inc #007915923-M
