House Fire with a Gas Leak in The Central Southwest Area

WHAT: House fire with a gas leak.

WHEN: September 15, 2023, at 9:32 a.m.

WHERE: 6500 block of River Bluff Dr. 77085.

INJURIES: One firefighter transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion.

CAUSE: The fire developed due to a leaking natural gas line accidentally damaged by a contractor.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find fire on the exterior of a small 1-story house with smoke coming from the eaves. They made an offensive attack and protected a nearby exposure. It was determined that the fire developed due to a leaking natural gas line accidentally damaged by contractors working on the foundation. Crews cooled the heated gas, and the line was manually shut closed by HFD Hazmat and CenterPoint personnel. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for heat exhaustion. 32 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 82, 2, 59, 48, 80, 49, 24, Hazmat 22 and Rehab 8.
