Apartment Fire in The Westchase Area

WHAT: Apartment fire.

WHEN: December 2, 2023, at 7:42 a.m.

WHERE: 9707 Richmond Ave. 77063.

INJURIES: Three deceased cats, one dog treated on scene and revived.

PROPERTY SAVED: $190,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $20,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson ruled the cause as accidental (kitchen).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find an apartment on fire and made an attack. They conducted a primary search and ventilated the unit. Several pets were found and taken to HFD crews for emergency care. They were able to save one dog, however three cats did not survive. The fire was controlled and contained to the unit of origin with smoke I the unit above. Fans were used to remove the smoke and the utilities were shut off to the two units. Firefighters fully extinguished the fire and requested HFD Arson investigators to determine the cause and origin. 36 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 2, 28, 78, 60, 68, 69, 83, 51, 24 and Rescue 10.
