2-Alarm Apartment Fire in The Westchase Area

WHAT: 2-Alarm apartment fire.

WHEN: December 3, 2023, at 5:59 a.m.

WHERE: 9707 Richmond Ave. 77063.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $800,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $800,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Rekindle.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a second-floor apartment on fire. They conducted a primary search with no one found. The fire was in the attic and broke through the roof. A second alarm was requested, and rehab was established. The crews extinguished the fire which caused major damage to the 8-unit building, with a significant portion of the roof burned off. There was heavy fire and water damage to the second-floor units and water damage to the first-floor units. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the occupants and the property manager and homeowner association president were on scene. 79 personnel responded to this incident, including crews from Stations 69, 2, 28, 68, 78, 83, 10, 49, 51, 57, 60, 75, 76, 11, 6, 37, 33, Rescue 10 and Rehab 17.
