CAUSE: Failure of equipment or heat source.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find light smoke and a smoldering bathroom vent fan in a university residential campus apartment unit causing a rug to catch fire below it. Crews extinguished the fire and turned the power off to the bathroom. They removed the fan and opened the ceiling to check for extension and found none. The unit was ventilated and left in the care of the campus personnel. Firefighters from Stations 46, 7 and 25 responded to this incident.
