2-Alarm Church Fire in The Edgebrook Area

WHAT: Church fire.

WHEN: April 29, 2023 at 2:55 p.m.

WHERE: 10320 Hartsook St. 77034.

INJURIES: One firefighter was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

PROPERTY SAVED: $20,050,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $200,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (electrical malfunction in the attic).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within two minutes to find smoke coming from a church building and established a water supply. A second alarm was requested, and a primary search was completed. The wind was fanning the fire as crews worked to keep it from spreading. Rehab was set up for the firefighters due to the extended time on scene and work required to keep the fire in check and prevented it from spreading to the sanctuary. Multiple hose lines were used, and the fire was fully extinguished and contained to the fellowship hall which suffered major damage. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Once their investigation was complete, firefighters conducted salvage and overhaul. Crews from Stations 52, 36, 15, 23, 20, 26, 70, 71, 29, 40, 61, 93, 94, 11, 18, 15, 37, 24, 30, 33, Command Van 8, Rescue 42 and Rehab 17 responded to this incident.
