WHAT: 2-alarm apartment fire.
WHEN: January 1, 2023 at 2:24 a.m.
WHERE: 2921 Sycamore Springs Dr. 77339.
INJURIES: Two firefighters evaluated on scene and one pet treated for smoke inhalation.
PROPERTY SAVED: $600,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $400,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators ruled the cause as accidental (candle).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find fire coming from the first floor of a 2-story apartment building. They made an offensive attack and conducted a primary search. The fire was found between the floors and a second alarm was requested when heavy smoke began coming from the vents. Crews controlled the fire and pulled ceiling to complete extinguishment. Atascocita Fire Department provided rehab and two HFD firefighters were evaluated by HFD EMS on scene. A pet was also treated for smoke inhalation. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the residents. HFD Arson investigators responded to the scene and determined the cause was accidental due to a candle catching a nearby item on fire. Firefighters from Stations 56, 64, 30, 15, 34, 45, 102, 9, 63, 65, 103, 105, 31, 101, Heave Rescue 11 and the Atascocita Fire Department responded to this incident.
