DAMAGE: $5,500 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Unintentional.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find smoke coming from the bay doors of a medium sized warehouse. A large dumpster was found on fire inside and was being suppressed by a sprinkler system. Crews ventilated the warehouse and conducted a primary search. Due to the amount of smoke, additional crews were requested to ventilate the structure, during which one firefighter became overheated and was transported to the hospital. Once the bulk of the fire was extinguished, the scene was declared under control. HFD Hazmat responded to check for any radioactive materials that may have burned and found none. The HFD quartermaster’s afterhours personnel were requested to change the gear out for the responding crews due to contamination. 50 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including firefighters from Stations 64, 15, 17, 74, 56, 17, and Hazmat 22.
