HPD Homicide Division Sergeants K. Daignault and M. Burrow reported:
Utility workers walking through an easement area at the above address found a male deceased and partially covered by a blanket. He appeared to have been there several days and had no identification on his possession.
An autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the victim as Marcus Jones and determined his death to have been caused by stab wounds.
Further investigation determined Mr. Jones was stabbed elsewhere and his body then left at the above location. Investigators determined Jones lived nearby and they were able to obtain evidence from inside his residence indicating the stabbing took place there. Investigators interviewed Jones’ uncle, Derrick Jones, and a friend, Everett Smith, who both admitted to their involvement in Jones’ death and the subsequent transport of his body. It was determined Derrick Jones stabbed Marcus Jones over property Marcus Jones had damaged. Smith then helped Derrick Jones conceal and later take the body to the above address where it was found.
