Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in a fatal crash at 13900 Cullen Boulevard about 8 p.m. on Dec.11, 2021.
The suspect, Pedro Vargas Garcia, 28, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in an accident involving a child in the 185th State District Court. A photo of Vargas Garcia, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Journee McDaniel, 7
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Officer V. Lewis reported:
A white Dodge Dart was traveling northbound on Cullen Boulevard near the above address when a black Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling westbound on Schurmier Road ran a stop sign and struck the Dodge. Ms. Journee McDaniel was severely injured and transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center in critical condition. Doctors pronounced her deceased on December 13. The driver and a male juvenile passenger, 7, were transported to an area hospital in stable conditions. The Ford’s male driver and two other passengers exited the pickup truck and fled the scene on foot.
Further investigation identified Vargas Garcia as the driver of the Ford and he was subsequently charged for his role in the crash. Vargas Garcia remains at at large.
