Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 2500 Joel Wheaton Road about 4:50 p.m. on October 30.
The suspect, Darius Jones, 24, is charged with murder in the 482nd State District Court. A booking photo of Jones, who is in custody in the Frio County Jail, is attached to this news release.
He is accused in the death of Ronskie Leday, 19.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Gardner and D. Davis reported:
Officers were dispatched to a shooting call at the above address and found the victim lying in the street. He had suffered a gunshot wound. Paramedics pronounced the man deceased.
Witnesses stated a fight between several females broke out when a suspect approached, pulled a pistol and fired shots into the crowd of people. The victim, later identified as Mr. Leday, was struck, attempted to run and then collapsed.
Further investigation, witness statements and evidence from the scene identified Jones as the suspect in this case and, on November 7, a warrant was issued for his arrest. On November 9, Jones was arrested by the Frio County Sheriff’s Department on unrelated charges. Jones remains in the Frio County Jail awaiting extradition to Harris County.
