Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2020 Fatal Shooting at 1203 Elberta Street

Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 1203 Elberta Street about 7:30 p.m. on January 19, 2020.

The suspect, Eric Zavala, 23, is charged with capital murder in the 263rd State District Court.  A booking photo of Zavala is attached to this news release.

The victim, Edwin Alejandre, 19, was transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives R. Moss and E. May reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address.  Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and a vehicle crash.  They then found Mr. Alejandre slumped over in his vehicle after it struck a nearby fence on private property.  The witnesses stated two unknown suspects fled the scene on foot.  Paramedics transported Alejandre to the hospital.

Further investigation identified Zavala as a suspect in this case and, on Thursday (June 23), he was arrested and charged for his role in the shooting.
