Houston police are asking for the public’s help in locating a person of interest in the fatal shooting of a man found at 1174 Chamboard Lane about 6:45 a.m. last Saturday (February 5). Investigators want to question Gregory Pellum, 31, in the death of Oscar Smith III, 39. A previous photo of Pellum is attached to this news release. Separately, Shannon Washington, 42, is charged with tampering with evidence – human corpse in the 232nd State District Court. A booking photo of Washington is attached to this news release. HPD Homicide Division Detectives K. Heaverlo and A. Dudley reported: HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call at the above address and found a male unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him (Mr. Smith III) deceased. Surveillance video determined the vehicle used to leave Smith’s body at the above address was a green Toyota Highlander. Further investigation led to detectives locating the SUV, which had multiple bullet holes and blood in the interior. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Shannon Washington, who was subsequently arrested and charged with tampering with evidence. Detectives believe Smith was involved in a fatal shooting incident at 838 Oak Street earlier that morning and was shot while fleeing the scene. Two men were pronounced deceased in that incident, which is believed to be drug-related.
