Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 2850 Fannin Street #1205 about 1:20 a.m. on November 4.
The suspect, Devion Michael Hurtado (b/m, 23), is charged with capital murder in the 184th State District Court. A photo of Hurtado is attached to this news release.
The victim, Ka’Darian Smith, 22, suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Meek and Detectives M. Condon, J. Brown and S. Overstreet reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address, after the apartment complex concierge reported a resident, Mr. Smith, had been shot. Two friends of Smith arrived at the scene, stating he had called them to report being shot. The concierge let the friends go up to the apartment where they found Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The friends then brought him to the first floor so he could be transported to Ben Taub General Hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics. Once there, Smith was pronounced deceased.
On November 17, detectives released surveillance video of individuals wanted for questioning in the case.
Further investigation led to the identification of Hurtado as the shooter in this case and he was subsequently arrested in Waco, Texas, on November 20 on an outstanding felony warrant. Hurtado was subsequently charged in this case on November 25.
Other individuals seen in video released by detectives have been identified with no additional charges filed at this time.
