Suspect Charged, Wanted in March Shooting at 1221 Redford Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the shooting of a juvenile at 1221 Redford Road about 8:50 p.m. on March 7.  

The suspect, James Dawayne Harris, 23, is charged with burglary of a habitation and unlawful carrying of a weapon in the 230th State District Court.  A July 2021 booking photo of Harris, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.

The female victim, 13, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives D. Crandall and M. Bellahna reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at an apartment complex at the above address and were flagged down by an adult female who stated her 13-year-old daughter had been shot in the leg.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital.

A preliminary investigation determined four unknown males and another adult male got into a disturbance outside.  As a result of the altercation, one of the four males fired multiple times at the residence and struck the juvenile in the leg.

Further investigation and evidence obtained identified Harris one of the suspects sought in this case.  He, along with three other unidentified suspects, is currently at large.
