Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 7500 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 10:15 a.m. on Thursday (Sept. 7).
The suspect, Trenton Bevel, 18, is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court. He is hospitalized with injuries sustained in the crash. A 2022 booking photo of Bevel is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased female victim, 75, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer T. Riley reported:
Patrol officers observed a stolen Dodge Charger taken in an armed robbery on Wednesday (Sept. 6) evening. When an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle on Jutland Road at Bellfort Avenue, the suspect driver refused to stop. Officers lost sight of the suspect vehicle just north of Reed Road and MLK Boulevard and called off the pursuit. The suspect vehicle later struck the female victim’s vehicle as she was waiting at the red light. Paramedics pronounced the woman deceased.
The suspect, identified as Bevel, and his male passenger were taken into custody. Paramedics transported Bevel to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators consulted with members of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and charges were subsequently filed on Bevel.
