Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in an assault at 8000 Beechnut about 10:20 p.m. last Friday (January 25).
The suspect, Elmer Maravilla-Ramirez (H/m, 26), and the victim, Johnny Pena-Hernandez, 29, were both transported to an area hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Maravilla-Ramirez is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 230th State District Court. A booking photo of Maravilla-Ramirez is not available at this time.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers A. Williams and S. Ragsdale reported:
Mr. Pena-Hernandez and the suspect (Maravilla-Ramirez) got into a verbal altercation at at apartment complex at 8500 Nairn. The two men chased each other through the complex on foot. They then began chasing each other in vehicles along Southwest Freeway service road. The suspect struck Pena-Hernandez’s vehicle with his car and caused Pena-Hernandez to strike a pillar under the Southwest Freeway at Beechnut. The suspect then threatened to shoot Pena-Hernandez before assaulting him with a pistol, causing the pistol to break. Pena-Hernandez, in fear of his life, pulled a knife and then stabbed the suspect multiple times in the chest and back. Paramedics arrived and transported both men to the hospital.
