Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested after firing shots at Houston Police officers at 7702 Riptide Drive about 8:35 p.m. on Saturday (November 18).
The suspect, Juan Carlos Serrano Morales, 39, is charged with four counts of assault of a peace officer in the 174th State District Court and assault of family member in Harris County Criminal Court #11. A booking photo of Serrano Morales is attached to this news release.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detectives A. Garcia and V. Gamez reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at a residence at the above address. As officers arrived and announced themselves, the suspect, later identified as Serrano Morales, immediately fired shots at the officers and refused to exit the residence. The officers, who were not struck nor returned fire, immediately set up a perimeter and contacted HPD SWAT personnel for assistance.
Serrano Morales allowed a female, 37, along with her two children to leave the residence. She had suffered injuries from an assault and was transported to an area hospital, where she was treated and released. The children were uninjured. Serrano Morales later surrender to police and was arrested without further incident.
The Harris County district Attorney’s Office was consulted and Serrano Morales was subsequently charged for his role in the incident.
