The officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Sergeant V. Garcia Jr. and Detective I. Rios-Hernandez reported:

HPD patrol officers were responding to an assault in-progress call when two officers in a marked police vehicle observed the suspect fleeing. The officers pursued the suspect to the intersection of 70th Street and J.W. Peavy Drive, where the suspect made a U-turn and drove at the officers as they tried to reverse out of his way. The suspect driver struck the officers head on and fled the scene on foot.  Despite a search of the area, he was not located.

Further investigation identified Sorto as the suspect in this case. Members of the HPD Eastside Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team arrested Sorto on Wednesday (Dec. 14) without incident.
