Suspect Arrested, Charged in Incident at 1500 Kingwood Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested following an incident where a Houston Police officer discharged his duty weapon at the suspect at 1500 Kingwood Drive about 3:50 p.m. on Thursday (August 17).

Chad Michael Duhon, 42, is charged with evading arrest in the 179th State District Court.  A booking photo of Duhon is attached to this news release.

Officer G. Chapa, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in this incident.  Officer Chapa is assigned to the Kingwood Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in October 2017.

HPD Sergeant M. Glover and Detectives S. Mohajer, A. Henderson and I. Ulloa reported:

Officer Chapa attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle, whose driver had two open felony warrants. The suspect (Duhon) fled in the vehicle through a strip center parking lot in the 1500 block of Kingwood Drive. Officer Chapa, in a marked police vehicle, pursued Duhon with his emergency equipment activated. Duhon then drove to the rear of the strip center and into a dead-end.

Duhon then jumped from the car and attempted to flee on foot.  He refused to obey the officer’s commands and, due to his actions, Officer Chapa believed the suspect was armed with a weapon.  Officer Chapa discharged his duty weapon at Duhon, who was not struck.  Duhon then ran northeast through an alleyway and into a restaurant parking lot at 1710 Kingwood Drive. He ran through the employee area of the restaurant and exited through an employee exit in back of the restaurant.  Officer Chapa confronted Duhon outside the door, who again refused to obey the officer’s commands and attempted to flee.  Officer Chapa deployed his CED (Conducted Energy Device) and was eventually able to take Duhon into custody with assistance from additional responding officers. Neither Officer Chapa nor the suspect was injured in this incident.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents that occur within the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
