Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 9200 South Dairy Ashford Road about 8:20 p.m. on Sunday (February 11).
The suspect, Alexander Leiva, 30, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 351st State District Court. A booking photo of Leiva is not available at this time, as he remains hospitalized.
The deceased female is identified as Iris Rodriguez, 71.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant Y Ramirez and Officer C. Morales reported:
A black Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Bissonnet Street and approaching the intersection of South Dairy Ashford. The Ford ran the red light at the intersection and struck a silver Nissan Juke traveling westbound on and making a left turn from South Dairy Ashford onto Bissonnet. The impact caused the NIssan to go eastbound over the grassy median and then strike a gray Honda CRV.
The driver of the Nissan was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics where she was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Ford pickup truck, later identified as Leiva, and his passenger, 19, were transported by paramedics to an area hospital with minor injuries. The female driver, 19 and her male passenger, 19, in the Honda were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Leiva was determined to be impaired and was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
