| Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 7800 North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610 East) about 8:10 p.m. on Sunday (July 17).
The suspect, Erick Diaz Oliva, 18, is charged with criminally negligent homicide in the 176th State District Court. A booking photo of Diaz Oliva, who remains hospitalized, is not available for release at this time.
The identity of the male victim, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dunn and Officer J. Louang-Pho reported:
The driver of a black Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling westbound near the above address when it veered off the freeway and went onto a grassy median. The Tahoe then struck a concrete overpass.
The front seat passenger was pronounced deceased. The male back seat passenger 23, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The driver, identified as Diaz Oliva, was also transported to an area hospital to be treated. He was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
