Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 2700 Wilcrest Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 2700 Wilcrest Drive that occurred about 12:25 a.m. on Monday (February 7).

The suspect, Cameron Rogers, 20, is charged with felony murder in the 338th State District Court.  A booking photo of Rogers is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Baker reported:

HPD patrol officers were on patrol in an area near 10400 Richmond Avenue and observed a white Cadillac STS illegally parked at a gas station at that address.  Officers activated emergency equipment and got out of their patrol vehicle to conduct an investigation.  At that time, the driver of the Cadillac fled and evaded officers.  HPD officers returned to their patrol vehicle and initiated a vehicle pursuit.

As the Cadillac traveled northbound on Wilcrest, the driver ran a red light at the intersection of Meadowglen Lane and struck a white BMW 5281 traveling westbound on Meadowglen Lane.  The driver of the BMW was pronounced deceased.  The driver of the Cadillac, later identified as Rogers, and the Cadillac’s two passengers, a male, 21, and a female, 18, were detained at the scene.  All three were transported to an area hospital in stable conditions.

Rogers was evaluated at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and Rogers was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
