Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 12000 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) that occurred about 10:55 p.m. on Wednesday (Aug. 25).
The suspect, Juan Jesus Rivera (H/m, 20), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 179th State District Court. A booking photo of Rivera, who is hospitalized, is not available for release at this time.
The identity of the female victim, 58, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Pham and Officer C. Brothers reported:
The victim was driving a silver Toyota 4Runner southbound at the above address when the vehicle stopped in a moving lane of traffic for an unknown reason (possible mechanical issue). When the woman got out of her vehicle, a white Chevrolet C10 pickup truck, driven by Rivera, struck her and her vehicle. Paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.
Rivera was transported to an area hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash. He was determined to be intoxicated and was subsequently charged.
