Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Assault at 3300 Yellowstone Boulevard

Charges have been upgraded against a suspect arrested in the fatal assault of a man at 3300 Yellowstone Boulevard about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 4.

The suspect, Dexter Jerome Simon, 34, is charged with manslaughter in the 262nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Simon is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Christopher Rivers, 53.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp reported:

Mr. Rivers and Simon were in a parking lot at the above address and became involved in a verbal altercation that turned physical. Investigators learned Simon punched Rivers in the face, causing him to fall to the ground and hit his head on the concrete. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Rivers to a local hospital, where doctors pronounced him deceased the following day (Feb. 5).

Responding officers arrested Simon at the scene and he was initially charged with assault. The charge was upgraded to manslaughter and last Thursday (April 6), Simon was arrested without incident.
