Suspect Arrested, Charged in April 2023 Fatal Shooting

A suspect wanted and charged in the fatal shooting of a man reported missing on April 4, 2023 has been arrested.

The suspect, Jonathan Hernandez, 18, is charged with capital murder in the 248th State District Court. A booking photo of Hernandez is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Luis Deleon, 19.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Cass and Detective. J. Wallschlaeger reported:

Human remains were found under several wood pallets next to the railroad tracks at 2101 Lee Street by Texas Equusearch on April 20, 2023. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences identified the remains as Mr. Deleon and discovered he had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Further investigation determined Deleon was last seen at 4414 Navigation Boulevard and identified Hernandez as a suspect in this case. Investigators learned Hernandez fatally shot Deleon during a robbery.

Hernandez was subsequently charged on April 27, 2023.

On February 15, members of the U.S Marshals Office’s Fugitive Task Force and Mexican authorities arrested Hernandez in Mexico. He was extradited back to Texas and booked into the Harris County Jail.
