Statement on Multifamily DR-17 Housing

October 11, 2021 -- Please attribute the following statement to Mayor Sylvester Turner.

"Regarding the 2020 Multifamily DR-17 Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA), dated August 16, 2021, no multifamily development has been placed on the city council agenda by this administration for council to consider nor has the NOFA funded any development.

"The administration will put forth the following developments for council consideration to receive gap funding from the NOFA:

  • New Hope Housing at Berry, a supportive housing development that will provide 240 affordable rental units serving low income families in the Northside and Northline areas (District H).
  • Fairways at Westwood, a multifamily development that will provide 120 affordable apartment homes for low-income families in the Alief/Westwood Complete Community (District J).

"The Huntington at Bay Area development, will not be recommended for funding. While it would have created affordable housing for seniors in District E, where there has been no affordable multifamily housing constructed since 2016, and never in the Clear Lake area, the project has become too much of a distraction for the administration’s agenda and for this city."
