Mayor Orders Lowering of City Flags, Remarks Upon Massacre

"I am ordering that flags at all city buildings be lowered in accordance with President Trump’s request to place flags at half-staff through Oct. 6 at all public buildings across the nation in memory of the victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas," Mayor Sylvester Turner said today.

“My prayers go out to everyone who has been impacted in Las Vegas, for the family members who have lost loved ones, for those who have been injured and are fighting for their lives. When I got up and I heard the news of the shooting I just stood still for a moment, and you say a prayer, because it could happen anywhere at any time. We have to be prayerful. And as the mayor of Houston, my job is to do everything in my power to keep people safe, and it’s a 24-7 job. First responders do an exceptional job but I do rely on my faith in these difficult times so I will continue to be very prayerful and encourage Houstonians to do the same."
