Houston police are investigating the shooting of three people at 5600 Chimney Rock Road about 7:35 p.m. on Sunday (July 26).
One man was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Two other victims were transported in stable condition.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Lange, M. Estep, C. Lamont, P. Pak and J. Caten reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting in a parking lot at the above address. Upon arrival, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds.
Witnesses reported one of the victims was protecting his juvenile son from a group of people in the apartment complex. He was then shot during an ensuing exchange of gunfire between himself and the group.
During the investigation, patrol officers located the apartment of a potential suspect. As a result, they recovered a large quantity of narcotics, currency and weapons. The suspect’s possible involvement in the shooting is still under investigation.
Another man was determined to be present during the shooting. Through investigation, detectives learned he had tampered with evidence at the scene. When officers attempted to take him into custody, he resisted and fled on foot. He was later located, arrested, and charged with tampering/fabricating evidence.
The investigation is continuing.
