Houston police are investigating the death of a male at 6600 Chetwood Drive about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday (March 10).
The identity and cause of death of the male, 31, are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Arrington and T. Simmons reported:
The male and a female were seen by witnesses breaking into the tool box of a white pickup truck parked at the above address. Neighbors of the vehicle owner confronted the male suspect and attempted to detain him at gunpoint as they called police.
The suspect and the neighbors got into a physical struggle before the suspect fled on foot toward his female companion’s vehicle. As one of the neighbors pursued the suspect, the neighbor fired shots, but it is unknown at this time if the suspect was struck by the gunfire. The suspect was then struck by his female companion’s vehicle as she fled the scene. The female did not stop to provide medical assistance and continued to flee. The suspect was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The neighbors were questioned and released.
At this time, it has not been determined if the suspect’s death was caused by the gunfire or being struck by the vehicle.
The fleeing suspect was described only as a Hispanic female in a blue SUV, possibly a Nissan.
Anyone with information in this case or on the identity of the wanted female suspect is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
