Investigation into Man’s Death at 13500 Gulf Freeway

Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a man at 13500 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday (January 14).

The identity of the man is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives M. Glover, R. Gonzalez and D. Hobson reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to the above address after several calls were received regarding a man walking on the freeway near moving lanes of traffic and crossing over the center barrier near the HOV lane.  Officers arrived and noticed the man appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.  Officers attempted to detain the man and a struggle ensued.  The man became unresponsive. Officers immediately administered Narcan and performed CPR until HFD paramedics arrived.

Paramedics transported the man to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

As is customary in incidents where a person becomes unresponsive in the presence of HPD officers, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
