Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed suspect at 10700 South Gessner Drive about 8:35 a.m. on Monday (September 16).
The identity of the male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The two HPD officers who discharged their duty weapons were not wounded in this incident. Officer R. Foster was sworn in in August 2016 and Officer C. Donovan was sworn in in August 2017. Both are assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Officers D. Hobson and R. Gonzalez reported:
Officers Foster and Donovan were on patrol near the above address when they were advised by a citizen of a suspicious male with a weapon. As the officers approached the male in a marked patrol vehicle, the suspect fled on foot. The officers pursued the suspect on foot, giving him loud and clear verbal commands to stop and not reach for a weapon. As the suspect fled, he pulled a pistol from his waistband, pointed it in the direction of the officers and possibly discharged it. The officers, fearing for their lives, discharged their duty weapons more than once, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.
As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents within the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and Internal Affairs Division as well as the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
