Houston police have learned a male injured in a shooting that occurred at 9800 West Bellfort Avenue about 6:50 p.m. on December 10, 2023 has died.
The deceased male is identified as John Davis, 65. A photo of Mr. Davis is attached to this news release.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Dunn reported:
Mr. Davis was picked up by a friend at a store at 10310 W. Bellfort. The friend was driving Davis’ vehicle and Davis sat in the backseat. As they passed an unrelated minor accident on the roadway in the 9800 block of West Bellfort, the driver stated he heard gunshots. The driver realized he and Davis were being shot at by a passing vehicle.
The driver checked on Davis and realized he had a gunshot wound and was unresponsive. The driver had also been shot in the lower leg. He drove himself and Davis to an area hospital where investigators were called to investigate the shooting.
Davis remained hospitalized until doctors pronounced him deceased on February 22 from the gunshot wound he sustained.
Witnesses described the suspect only as a black male wearing a gray hoodie in the back seat of a sedan of unknown make, model or color.
