Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man at 6425 Bankside Drive about 1:10 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 17).
The identity of the victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers J. Blum and A. Alobaidi reported:
Officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address and were advised a male (victim) was shot one time and transported to an area hospital by witnesses. Upon further investigation, officers learned the male was armed with a pistol when he got into a fight with a known suspect. At one point, the suspect grabbed a gun from one of the male’s friends and shot the male. The suspect then fled the scene and went inside a family member’s apartment fearing retaliation by the male’s friends. Officers later detained the suspect.
As officers were conducting the scene investigation, they learned the male was pronounced deceased at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center.
The male suspect was questioned by detectives at HPD Headquarters, stated the shooting was in self-defense and released pending further investigation.
