Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 9900 Main Street about 2:40 p.m. on Monday (Dec. 20).
The identity of the female victim, 84, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer W. Smith reported: A Houston Fire Department ambulance was traveling northbound at the above address and was transporting the victim to a hospital for a life-threatening medical emergency. The ambulance had its lights and siren activated as it traveled through the intersection of the 610 South Loop West service road at Main. A green Toyota Camry, traveling westbound on the service road, failed to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle and struck the ambulance. The impact caused the ambulance to roll onto its side. The victim was transferred to another ambulance and transported to Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased. At this time, her cause and manner of death are pending an autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. One HFD employee sustained an injury to his head. He and several other persons inside the ambulance were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. The Toyota’s female driver, 24, was not injured.
