Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9300 East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) that occurred about 6:40 a.m. on Sunday (February 28).
The identity of the female victim, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer J. Tran reported:
The victim was driving a grey Chevrolet Malibu on the connector ramp from the East Freeway westbound to the 610 East Loop northbound. The Malibu failed to maintain a single lane, struck a TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) sign and then drove into a wooded area, striking multiple trees.
The driver and passenger were transported to Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital where the victim was pronounced deceased. The male passenger, 23, is in stable condition. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The investigation is continuing.
