Investigation into Fatal Crash at 9103 North Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9103 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday (April 24).

The identity of the male victim, 22, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Jewell and Officer J. Leon reported:

The driver of a black Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling northbound on the freeway and took the West Mount Houston Road exit.  A witness stated two motorcycles, a Honda and a Suzuki, were traveling northbound on the freeway service road when the Ford truck made a sharp right turn – an unsafe lane change – to pull into a business parking lot.  The Honda motorcycle struck the front right side of the truck and the Suzuki struck the back right side of the truck.  Paramedics pronounced the man operating the Honda motorcycle deceased at the scene.  The male operator, 21, of the Suzuki, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

An additional witness told investigators the motorcycles may have been racing or that speed might have played a role in the crash.  The male driver of the Ford truck did not show signs of impairment.  He was questioned and released with no charges filed at this time.

The investigation is continuing.
