Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 7700 Braniff Avenue about 12:20 a.m. today (August 17).
The identity of the male victim, 89, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer A. Chheav reported:
The victim, a pedestrian, was walking eastbound at the above address. The area of the road was dark and had no sidewalk. A witness reported passing the pedestrian while driving westbound and flashing their headlights at an oncoming black Nissan Frontier. The male driver of the Nissan, not knowing the reason, slowed but then struck the victim at a low rate of speed. The Nissan’s driver stopped and attempted to render aid to the victim, who was pronounced deceased by arriving Houston Fire Department paramedics.
The Nissan’s driver, 53, who showed no signs of intoxication, was questioned and released.
The investigation is continuing.
