Houston police are investigating a fatal crash in the 4800 block of Alabama Street that occurred about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (December 14).
The identity of the victim, 87, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rodriguez and Officer S. Le reported:
The female victim was a passenger in a silver Cadillac XTS traveling eastbound at the above address. The vehicle stopped while attempting to turn onto the West Loop South (West Interstate Highway 610 South) service road. For unknown reasons, the vehicle drove into the concrete barrier dividing the service road and the freeway. Paramedics transported the victim to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where doctors pronounced her deceased.
Paramedics transported the male driver, 37, of the vehicle to the hospital in unknown condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
