Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1800 Pierce Street about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 29).
The identity of the female victim, 85, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer J. Bibb reported:
The driver of a black Ford Fusion was traveling southbound on Hamilton Street when she ran the red light at the Pierce Street intersection and struck a gray Chevrolet Malibu that had the green traffic light traveling eastbound Pierce Street. The impact caused the Ford to leave the roadway and go down a concrete embankment until it came to rest after striking a concrete freeway retention wall. The Ford’s passenger (victim) was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
The driver, 63, of the Ford sustained non-life threatening injuries. She did not exhibit any signs of intoxication. The female driver, 31, of the Chevrolet was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
