Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 17400 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 3:30 a.m. on Sunday (Nov. 28).
The identity of the male victim, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Phillips reported:
The victim was observed driving a maroon Toyota Camry at a high rate of speed southbound at the above address and took the Rankin Road exit. The Toyota lost control in the wet conditions and struck a sign, a guardrail and a highway light tower base. The impact caused the vehicle to catch on fire. Witnesses attempted to get the driver out of the vehicle, but were not able to do so. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
