Investigation into Fatal Crash at 15900 Gulf Freeway

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 15900 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 4:40 p.m. last Friday (July 21).

The victim, a 25-week-old fetus, was pronounced deceased the following day.  Its mother, 21, remains hospitalized in stable condition.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant F. Briones and Officer R. Ramos reported:

A silver Mercedes-Benz SL-Class was exiting a parking lot when it was struck by a green Mazda traveling northbound on the service road.  A pregnant female passenger in the Mazda was transported to a hospital.  When the woman went into labor hours later, her fetus did not survive.

The female driver, 65, of the Mercedes was cited for failure to yield the right of way.  The male driver, 20, of the Mazda was not injured.

The investigation is continuing.
