Houston police are investigating an incident in which an HPD officer fatally shot an armed suspect at 5901 Selinsky Road about 11:15 p.m. last Friday (May 24).
The identity of the male suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Officer T. Peacock, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Peacock was sworn in as an officer in December 2014 and is assigned to the Gang Division.
HPD Special Investigations Unit Detectives J. Villareal, N. Arellano, R. DeLaRosa and M. Rodriguez reported:
Officers from the HPD Gang Division responded to a report of a suspicious person with a weapon at an apartment complex at the above address and were advised the male suspect was armed with a gun. Officers arrived and saw a suspect who matched the physical and clothing description provided.
Officers confronted the armed suspect near an apartment and gave him repeated verbal commands to drop his weapon, which he ignored. The suspect became more agitated as officers continued to give him verbal commands and then pointed his weapon at officers. Fearing the suspect was going to shoot them, Officer Peacock discharged his duty weapon several times and struck the suspect. Officers immediately called for medical assistance. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the suspect deceased. No officers were injured during the incident.
As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
