HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers M. Combs and A. Barker reported:

The victim offered a ride to a male suspect (Mitchell) on Thursday (May 23).  Soon after Mitchell was picked up at the above address, both men got into a disturbance, during which Mitchell pulled out a gun and shot the victim.  Mitchell then fled the scene on foot and forced his way into a residence in the 5700 block of Flamingo Drive.  Mitchell restrained the elderly female homeowner and attempted to force her to tell police dispatch that everything was fine.

HPD Southeast Patrol officers, along with the HPD Crime Suppression Team and an HPD K-9 unit, responded to the scene, located Mitchell inside the residence and took him into custody without further incident.  The homeowner, 82, was not injured.
