Investigation into Armed Suspect Fatally Shot at 10100 Forum Park Drive

Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of an armed male suspect by HPD officers at 10100 Forum Park Drive about 11:50 p.m. last Friday (June 28).

The identity of the suspect is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Officer J. Selle, who discharged her duty weapon, sustained gunshot wounds to her arm and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where she was treated and released.  Officer Selle was sworn in as an officer in January 2017 and is assigned to the Westside Patrol Division.

Two other officers, L. Maldonado and K. Smith II, also discharged their duty weapons, but were not injured in the incident.  Officers Maldonado and Smith are assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division and were sworn in as officers in August 2015 and August 2016, respectively.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant M. Ynosencio and Detectives L. Lopez, M. Millington, J. Brown and M. Glover reported:

HPD patrol officers assigned to the South Gessner Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle in the southwest area of Houston.  The suspect refused to stop and evaded police, who initiated a vehicle pursuit and subsequently lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, a wrecker driver in the area of the above address located the suspect vehicle and notified officers of its location.  Officers Selles, Maldonado and Smith immediately responded to the scene, confronted the suspect, who was armed with a gun, and exchanged gunfire.  Officer Selles was wounded during the gunfire and the suspect was struck.  The suspect was pronounced deceased by responding HFD paramedics.  Officers recovered a pistol and marijuana in the suspect’s possession.  Officer Selles was transported to the hospital.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
