HOUSTON - The Houston Health Department will continue prioritizing its COVID-19 vaccine supply on people at the highest risk of severe illness and underserved communities during the week of February 8, 2021. The department will also schedule 5,728 second doses.
The department received 9,000 additional first doses on Friday and anticipates another 1,600 on Monday. Of the new allotment, 6,391 are for the department’s Area Agency on Aging, 3,850 for providers in underserved communities, and 359 for previously scheduled appointments.
The vulnerable population vaccine allocation means the health department will not open new appointments or add to its Area Agency on Aging waitlist for the week of February 8.
Health department appointments are currently full based on supply. People are urged not to contact the COVID-19 call center about first dose appointments because no slots are available.
People can register for the HoustonRecovers subscription of AlertHouston to learn about new appointment opportunities through email, text message, voice call, or mobile app push notification.
When available, the appointment portal for Houston Health Department vaccine clinics will open at HoustonEmergency.org/covid19.
Second Doses
The department continues reaching out by text message and email with information to schedule second doses of COVID-19 vaccine. The messages contain a survey link for people to self-register for a second dose appointment.
People with internet or technology challenges and those who don’t receive a message should contact the COVID-19 call center 24 to 48 hours before Moderna’s recommended 28-day due date.
If contact information changed since a person received the first dose from the health department, please alert the call center at 832-393-4220. The average wait time for the call center is approximately 30 minutes.
People who received their first dose on January 9 at Minute Maid Park are receiving second doses by appointment on February 5 at Delmar Stadium or February 6 at Minute Maid Park.
The second dose schedule for the week of February 8 is below. People without appointments will not be served.

The department currently provides the Moderna vaccine, with the second dose recommended 28 days after the first dose. Updated guidance from CDC says it should be administered as close as possible to 28 days but can be scheduled up to 42 days after the first dose.
The department provides second doses only to people who it provided a first dose.
Houston Health Department Doses Administered
As of the end of the day on February 4, the Houston Health Department received a total of 41,950 first doses and administered 40,991 first doses.
The department received a total of 22,200 second doses and administered 5,135 second doses with a total of 11,971 second doses scheduled for the week of February 8.
